Tessellations With Students

Experiences With The Students:    ISTE Standards:        5.3a: Model and learn with students how to formulate computational solutions to problems and how to give and receive actionable feedback.      5.3C Plan collaboratively with other educators to create learning activities that cross disciplines to strengthen student understanding of CT and CS concepts and transfer application of knowledge in new contexts.       Today was the day that I finally got to teach a lesson plan that I had worked on and created. I absolutely loved the way that the students interacted with us and, for the most part, were not shy and holding back. This was a day that I am going to remember for so long. Between each group, we had to change things up and get a better handle on what we were doing. Group 1: This was a group of boys that had just come in. There was one that was shyer, but the others were very talkative. They wanted to know wha...

Digital MakerSpace Lab

ISTE Standards:  1c.  Leverage CT and CS experts, resources, and professional learning networks to continuously improve practice integrating CT across content areas. 5.3b Apply effective teaching strategies to support student collaboration around computing, including pair programming, working in varying team roles, equitable workload distribution and project management. 5.4cGuide students on the importance of diverse perspectives and human-centered design in developing computational artifacts with broad accessibility and usability. My Experience:     While I was exploring which of the resources to use when looking at Maker Ed under the "open source software" tab, I ran across a website Scratch . This website had all sorts of games that you can play and explore. While I was on the website, I was able to play a variety of different games such as the Escape Room, Design Your Own Treehouse, and Space Shooter 2.0.  Overall, I really enjoyed all of these...

Drone Coding Lab

ISTE Standards: 1d. Develop resilience and perseverance when approaching CS and CT learning experiences, build comfort with ambiguity and open-ended problems, and see failure as an opportunity to learn and innovate. 5.3bApply effective teaching strategies to support student collaboration around computing, including pair programming, working in varying team roles, equitable workload distribution and project  management. 5.4b Design authentic learning activities that ask students to leverage a design process to solve problems with awareness of technical and human constraints and defend their design choices. Helpful Notes From The TelloDrone Vidoes Rules:   Do NOT fly the drones over others heads. Be aware of what other drones are in the air around you. Account room for some error. Be sure you have enough space for the drones path. HAVE FUN!!   When working with the TelloDrones, you will be using the block codes. These codes will allow you to see the command that you a...

WeDo 2.0 Activity for Students

ISTE Standards:      5.3C Plan collaboratively with other educators to create learning activities that cross disciplines to strengthen student understanding of CT and CS concepts and transfer application of knowledge in new contexts.   4b Design authentic learning activities that ask students to leverage a design process to solve problems with awareness of technical and human constraints and defend their design choices. Activity: When being with the students for a quick mini-lesson, we expect to only have 30 minutes with the students. We are planning on doing about 5-10 minutes of instruction and allowing the rest of the time for the students to learn with the programming. The students will approach the table that we will have set up, with the robot already built. The robot took about 60 minutes to build, so the students would not have time to do this in their rotation. We will ask them what they think they are looking at, which is a flower and a bug of some sort. ...

Sprites In Action

Sprites In Action With  Code.org         ISTE Computational Thinking (Learner)      Educators continually improve their practice by developing an understanding of computational thinking and its application as a cross-curricular skill. Educators develop a working knowledge of core components of computational thinking: such as decomposition; gathering and analyzing data; abstraction; algorithm design; and how computing impacts people and society.       1a. Set professional learning goals to explore and apply teaching strategies for integrating CT practices into learning activities in ways that enhance student learning of both the academic discipline and CS concepts.       5.5cUse a variety of instructional approaches to help students frame problems in ways that can be represented as computational steps or algorithms to be performed by a computer.      5.3aModel and learn with students how ...
